Dwarf Mongoose. Meet the dwarf mongoose, southern Africa's smallest carnivore. As the name would imply, this species is the smallest of the African mongooses.

Even though they are the smallest African carnivore, they are crucial in their role within. Hornbills catch insects, rodents and other prey flushed by the pack and in return serve as lookouts, sounding alarm calls when avian predators are sighted. Being the smallest isn't always a bad thing.

The species can be distinguished from other mongooses by its size.
